Recreational Teams
Teams receive one 90 minute practice per week. Practices takes place in the
evenings, Monday to Friday. BMBA has a number of teams in various divisions, so until a player is placed on a team, it is not possible to determine when his or her practice will be.
Also, due to the large number of teams, not all teams are able to receive a practice gym that is located in Bedford. Some of the gyms that are used are located outside Bedford, such as Ridgecliff, Sackville Heights Elementary, Sackville Heights Junior High, Lockview High, Halifax West, and Madeline Symonds Middle School.
Recreational teams play one game per week, on Saturday or Sunday, which can take place anywhere in the HRM. The league schedule is not determined by BMBA and BMBA has no control over where or when these games take place.
Occasionally, a league game may take place outside the HRM (for example, Truro) depending on the division.
All teams play in the Bedford Classic Tournament, which takes place in early March. Entry fees are included in the registration fee.
Participation in the Basketball Nova Scotia Provincial Tournament is optional, which takes place at the end of March or early April. Entry fees are not included in the registration fee.
Rep Teams
BMBA has rep teams in the Jr. Mini, Mini, Bantam and Midget divisions.
Teams are placed in Division 1 or 2 of the MBA for league play. Rep teams receive two 90 minute practices per week. There is an extra cost to the players who are selected for these teams to cover the extra gym time. It is expected that the extra gym time fee will be approximately $160 per player for the season.
Rep teams play in the Bedford Classic Tournament, which takes place in early March. Entry fees are included in the registration fee.
Participation in the Basketball Nova Scotia Provincial Tournament is optional, which takes places at the end of March or early April. Entry fees are not included in the registration fee.
Many of the rep teams opt to play in extra tournaments, such as the Basketball Nova Scotia Provincial Tournament. All entry fees and travel costs for participating in extra tournaments are the responsibility of the players of these teams.
Rep team play requires a high level of commitment by the players and their families, both financially, and time-wise. You must also be willing to travel at your own expense.
